Big City Mountaineers

Big City Mountaineers instills critical life skills in under-served urban youth through transformative wilderness mentoring expeditions.

Together we can provide young people with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that is sure to shape their futures and broaden their horizons.

WHAT WE DO
Big City Mountaineers combines the power of mentoring with sequential wilderness mentoring experiences to develop character, integrity, responsibility and decision-making skills that lead to positive behavioral change in youth.

We work exclusively with under-resourced, racially diverse youth, most between the ages of 13 and 18, who often have no experience outside of their neighborhoods. BCM adult role models provide insight, encouragement, and support as they guide young people to overcome challenges on the trail. Youth return home with the tools to overcome adversity, make positive decisions and become successful in life.

BCM has a proven track record of developing successful, caring, healthy young people by:

• Increasing academic achievement
• Reducing violence and drug use
• Increasing physical activity

BCM works with youth from the Twin Cities, Madison and Chicago. Our location for the core wilderness experience is the BWCA.
